Direct Current

Featuring saxophonist Coat Cooke and bass player Dave Chokroun, Direct Current plugs into places you’d never expect.  With their combined history of creative improv, straight-ahead jazz, classical, funk, noise, punk and new music, Coat and Dave mix it up and deliver surprising performances of serious fun. 

Double bassist Dave Chokroun is a member of the 1067 collective, the front man for the Sorrow and the Pity and a member of Robots on Fire, Jeff Younger’s Sandbox and the Bruce Freedman African Groove Band.  His nuanced, wide-ranging sound world includes some of the finest arco playing imaginable. 

When Dave and Coat perform as Direct Current, expect a constant shock of ideas that might morph from groove into noise, return to a refined sense of melody and then transform back into irreverent primitive impulses.
